Under these conditions, the fluid portion of the blood can collect more oxygen than is possible by breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure (courtesy of Henry's Law of Pressure, which increases the solubility of gases in liquids).
Blood carries this oxygen to the body. It helps fight bacteria and stimulates the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells that promote the healing process at the cellular level.
Along with blood, more oxygen is dissolved in all body fluids, plasma, central nervous system fluids, fluids secreted by lymph nodes, and bones, making it easier to move to areas of the body where oxygen circulation is impaired.
Body tissues need an adequate supply of oxygen to function. When tissues are injured, they need more oxygen to survive. HBOT increases local oxygen availability.
